Population growth in the region has been tremendous and shows no signs of slowing down. As a result, demand for electricity has grown even more — but, by 2011, our reliable, affordable power will be at risk.

We invite you to learn more about the issue and to take action to preserve our quality of life and strengthen our shared resources.

SCC STAFF RE-AFFIRMS NEED FOR TRANSMISSION LINE

Latest Study Supports Need for Electric Transmission Line

A recently updated independent report, released by the State Corporation Commission staff, confirms the need for Dominion Virginia Power's proposed electric transmission line for Northern Virginia. The study, based on the most up-to-date data and projections available regarding expected demand for electric power, warns that without an expansion of the electric transmission system Northern Virginia could experience reliability problems as early as summer 2011.

The State Corporation Commission will hold an evidentiary hearing on February 25 in Richmond to consider testimony from Dominion in support of their application to invest in electrical infrastructure, as well as arguments from opposing parties.

The Coalition for Reliable Energy supports an investment in the infrastructure necessary to meet the growing energy demands of our region. Northern Virginia is the economic engine of Virginia, and to sustain that dependence while preserving our quality of life, we must support the basic infrastructure to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of reliable and affordable energy.
